Thinking of opting out of company car scheme.

When I picked the Volvo I was told that the list was based on cars with a list price (yes, list price, not monthly lease cost) of around £14k. This is what I really struggle with because I was asking to go 'off list' for cars which I found to have a similar monthly leasing cost (and were in my view better cars) only to be told that the list price was £5k+ over budget and I couldn't have it :(

The reason they have a list price limit as opposed to a monthly limit is because the car you drive will probably reflect your position in the company.
If you jump up in level then the person higher will want to jump higher still.
    Where do they stop.
People who have never had a company car can't understand that what ever the level you are on, you always want higher level. If you've never had the luxury of a fully expensed brand new car you can't understand why company car drivers are never satisfied. £3200 a year for a new car, they probably depreciate that much in the first year.

My husbands way of 'technically' getting a pay rise, change the Range Rover Sport for a Lexus RX350h, as for mileage, 400 miles a week commuting and 150 miles on a weekend to our static caravan on the east coast so there is no way it would pay him to opt out of private mileage.

Can you still get the Volvo but with a much more efficient engine?
What about a Seat Leon or a Skoda Octavia ( never thought I would be
recommending a Skoda) but my brothers just got one and he loves it.
    ML.
