Why? it usually involves undoing two plastic nuts. A bucket will catch any residual water in the trap.
The worst case is that you can't get it back on (though the chance of that is probably about 1%), in which case you'd call a handyman out (not a job you need a qualified plumber for).
So how would you be any worse off by trying it yourself?
I do try to do somethings myself but i have to build the cofidence first if it goes wrong it has an impact on the way i view any other challeng

difficult to explain on here how somethings effect me.

The supermarkets didn't stock any last year.

Just done a deal with a local guy for a box of "DRAIN MASTER".

Thats the best stuff I have found.

Sulphuric Acid dissolves anything organic, including you if you don't wear gloves.

Edit: I dont rate MR Muscle & I don't think it has Sulp Acid in it.

    Drain blaster.

It's like a plunger, but it works! It fires high speed jets of water down and no chemicals needed and costs less than a fiver, lasts forever.

Thereafter, give it a blast every month or two and it stops any build up.

It could not be simpler to remove the trap. You do not even need a spanner normally. Do you not have someone who could show you how easy it is to do. More or less hold your hand to give you the confidence to tackle this. Once you have done it once you will wonder why you were concerned about doing it. Personally, I try to avoid chemicals in drains, especially sulphuric acid. Not very eco-friendly.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Another vote for removing the trap. Assuming you can access the trap fairly easily ( not always possible with a shower, for instance ), then removing it it very easy indeed. No chemicals involved and totally free of cost :-)

One little tip - once the trap is off, give the whole thing, and the screw threads, a really good clean - an old toothbrush is ideal. Cleaning the threads will make it easy to get a watertight seal when you put it back together again, and there's no need to over-tighten the joints.

Oh, and one other tip - don't clean the trap in the sink that you've just removed it from !!!! I've seen it done ( not by me, honest guv ! )

When our bath stopped draining properly we tried everything we could find. Then we went outside and found a massive ball of hair at the end of the pipe (4 girls all with long hair). Once that was removed everything flowed nicely. So if your sink drains to an outside drain, go take a look and see if the pipe is blocked at that end.

Otherwise, I found Mr Muscle to be wonderful stuff. I only ever used half the quantities they said, and it still worked wonders.
