Question r.e Halifax application

Hi
I opened an account with Halifax online (or so I thought).
And basically it said your sort code will be this, your account number that etc. And gave me details to log in online etc. Now as I only applied on Wednesday I haven't as yet received my debit card or anything.
Now I did receive my temp password in the post to login to online banking with. Which I have just done.
However when I login it has a box that contains, My name, Current Account, Then my account details, and a link titled "Application Decision". When that is clicked, it takes me to a white page with nothing more than blue writing saying "Application decision declined".
Can anybody shed any light on this please?

You application for an account has been declined.
Halifax issue sort code and account number on upon application sometimes they give an instant decision other times, as in your case, they take a few days.0 -
Am I likely to receive a letter explaining why?
I went to Halifax Bank as my account with Lloyds only permits me to have a card whereby I can only withdraw from lloyds branch machines. Which is a HUGE inconvenience.
Can anything be done? Or rather, how can I find out why I am having such a hard time getting an account.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
You may get a letter from them explaining the decline. How about calling them to see if there was a specific reason for the decline?Best Regards

Does anybody have any suggestions of any particular bank that may be easier to get a new account with than others? Basically, all I want is the ability to be able to draw my own money out of a cash machine!! Something Lloyds claim they can't do without "upgrading my account" which was declined/referred.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
Check the list of Basic bank accounts at the moneymade clear website http://www.moneymadeclear.org.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts_table.pdf. If LloydsTSB had already declined you, you were probably a little optimistic thinking another part of the same group will accept you. Try Barclays, RBS/Natwest?0

Already got one with barclays (which is a full account, where I can withdraw wherever I like) only problem is, I have debts there. Which I am currently challenging under Section 75.
. I am scared they may offset any money paid in against the debt. Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -

Apply for the "Easy Saver" Savings Account with Lloyds TSB and request for the Cashpoint Card, all you have to do is then use Online Banking or Telephone Banking and transfer the Amounts you need to Withdraw. This gets over the "Lloyds TSB Cash Machine Only" Policy with the Cash Card Account they have.
I know it's silly they won't let you Withdraw money from any one else's Cash Machine with the Cash Card Account, otherwise you could try and open the Halifax EasyCash Account or NatWest Step Account (Halifax EasyCash = Visa Electron Card + Any Cash Machine and NatWest = Visa Debit + Any Cash Machine).
Also as you have said above, if you have Debts with any Bank don't open another account with them as they do have the right to Off-Set as per the T&C's.
Hope it helps!David

try for the Coop Cashminder account - can apply over the telephone and its a visa debit card account although some places still recognise it as a visa electron and no restrictions on which cash machines you can use and also can be used at Post Offices for deposits and withdrawals.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Sorry yes I forgot about the Co-Op they are just as good but do remember they have a three strikes and then you are out Policy if you miss Direct Debits etc.David

I have just applied for the Natwest Step, hopefully they won't have any problems. As it has no credit facilities what so ever. (Which I don't want). All I want is an account where I can pay my bills etc from it and be able to withdraw my own money from it at any cash pointLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0
