Boyfriend has just lost his job after being off sick for too long, does this affect his ESA at all/does he need to inform anyone about this? Thanks

No this will not affect his ESA unless he receives a pension over £85 per week.0 -
It can affect his ESA but not in a bad way - if he was on SSP prior to his contract being ended then he wont have to serve the waiting days again on ESA - if he didnt serve them on SSP then he will have to on ESA.0
