Results from home buyers report - possible timber floor damp

Hi everyone

I have just got the survey report back from the house we are looking to buy. It is a 3 bed mid terrace stone property. The report has highlighted some potential problems with the timber floor, it has a high moisture content which could lead to rot. If I ring the surveyor will they give me a little more info and a possible next step? Obviously if it can be trated fairly easily I am not worried but I dont want to have to replace the whole floor!

Can anyone suggest who I should contact to get it fully checked?

Yes, probobly. What kind of survey was it?

You need to find out
a) how damp - does the wood need replacing? treating? or just drying out?
b) why damp - what is causing it? Blocked air bricks? (easy), failed damp proof course? (could be expensive)

You might need an independant damp specialist but beware damp proof companies offering 'free survey'. Likely to be a salesman rather than a surveyor and he'll be keen to sell you whatever damp proof system they sell!

It was ahomebuyers report. I am going to speak to the surveyor today and see if he can answer the above two questions, and perhaps see if he can recommend the next step. I am presuming he could probably look into further?
