good afternoon and happy bank holiday.
Just wondering if any one could help me please?
We have lived in our rented place for 2 years now.For the last six months we have had nothing but trouble here.
We have had one week where we could not live in the house (council moved us due to a problem with it)
This has now been fixed. We Must have had a plumbler out to the house over 8+ times and now they have found out we need a new heating systerm. This was two weeks ago we have had no calls from letting company to tell us whats going to happen. We have been without heat at time when its been very cold .We also went without water due to a water leak over easter they have fixed to leak. But still no one from letting company have been around to see about sorting the damage caused by this.
We have been looking for new place for months now there is nothing in our area we have also got a 4 month old baby so all this has not been very helpful.
We are unsure what to do my husband say he will not pay the rent until this is fixed but i feel this is the wrong way to go about this does anyone have any ideas thank you

  • You say you have had no calls from the letting company and no one has been round? Obviously people have been round though because you have had stuff fixed. Have you called the letting company rather than wait for them to call you?

Not 100% sure what's wrong at the moment from your post, is it lack of heating? Why did the Council move you out previously?

Hi we have phoned letting company about problems but they never ring back to try and sort things out they just pass our number on to tradesman. We have had no heating now for last two weeks and no contact we have phoned and left messages for letting company as all we get is the answear machine. We were moved out due to a problem with the loft.

Start recording your problems in writing. Write to the agent AND landlord (at the address on the contract) giving
    a) a history of the problems to date, what has been fixed, how long it toof and any other past problems
    b) details of what is wrong now
    c) a request that they inform you by return of post how and when they intend to resolve the outstanding problem.

    Keep copies.

Do not stop paying rent. at present, the LL appears to be in the wrong. If you stop paying rent, YOU will be in the wrong.

Shelter have good information on getting repairs done.
