laptop memory slot failure :¬(

hey ever helpful people

one of the memory slots has failed in my HP Pavillion laptop (dv8263ea)

Does anyone know if there is there anything I can try/check before i either condemn it (well give it to the kids) or have to splash out for some RAM.

RAM is only available in 1GB sticks for this motherboard.

(I have substituted other RAM hence I know its definitely the slot)

It currently has 2 x 512MB but obv only half of that is working!

I only unearthed this when i was trying to run some vmware and it said I didn't have enough RAM!

I cant really justify buying a new laptop.

Any crazy suggestions gratefully received in advance

thanks
