Transferring files to iPad from vista

Hi

I'm trying to transfer avi files from my laptop to my iPad. Is there an easy way to do it? At the moment I'm trying to convert the files to mp4 but when I try to play them on either device I just get a black screen.

Any help appreciated

It would help if you could tell us what software are you using for converting and playing it back. I'm using Handbrake to convert videos to h.264 inside a mkv container, but it also supports mp4 and has some presets for Apple devices.

Hi,

I'm using Mpeg streamclip, it is just something I found when searching how to do it on google. I have got a funny feeling ti could be to do with the resolution, or I'm just doing it completely wrong.
