  • Morning,

regards to 1st Direct, if you're wanting to avoid damaging your credit file, then you ought to come to some arrangement quick smart i'd suggest you maintain payments into the account, to at least look at reducing the balance.

Thing is you don't want to get loads of late payment markers, either - do you? :D

Do I actually have to make a set agreement with them to repay it or just pay what I can towards the overdraft as an when I've got it.

Really hoping the FOS will help with the refund of charges as this would wipe out all of my overdrafts completely. They are entirely made up because of the charges over the last few years following my hospitalisation, doesn't seem fair really.

just keep paying into it - are the accounts actually in arrears / default or is the account still open? What I mean is could you pay £100 in then spend it again or does it get swallowed? :D

First Direct were very unhelpful regarding my situation and told me I had one month to get the overdrafts sorted out or they would freeze my accounts. Rather than wait for this to happen I opened accounts elsewhere and have been trying to reclaim the charges back from FD. I have written to them a number of times and last week sent all letter from all my banks to the FOS.

In the last few years (after my hospitalisation) I have been charged just over £5,000 in charges and this is still rising. My overdrafts are all maxed out Barclays £600, Santander £400, First Direct 2 accounts £250 & £485. I can still use my Barclays and Santander accounts but any money I put into FD will never be seen by me again - unless I get any of my charges back.

  • Had a letter back from Barclaycard bf saying they had refunded £92 of charges back in March 2007. Obviously their crystal ball must have been working overtime - or they were from the six years prior to March 2007. As after March 2007 there were £60 worth of charges, they couldn't have refunded me before they had happened so whilst I thank them for the £92 I've written back asking for the the other £60 plus interest.

    Fingers crossed.

Clever move, they may well pay it to you as well - they are quite generous at spending money, and giving it by all accounts :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Good Luck!

  • Letter this morning from Capital One, looks like I've finally got the right address for them as they are now going to look into the charges on my credit card.

That's good news as Credit Cards do seem more inclined to return fees than banks do. So far had joy with First Direct and some joy with Barclays, just waiting for Abbey credit card to feel the same.

LOL how cheeky should I be, maybe the two credit cards that are with Barclays in my name from years ago that I'm trying to find if they are unenforceable, should I ask for the charges back on them...... actually only joking as defaulted on them pre 2002 so would be well out of the 6 years dead line but just thought about it for a split second.

  • Replies from the FOS they are going to look into my claim and have written to all the organisations regarding the bank charges.

  • I've been trying to sort all my incomings/outgoings out on a big year wall planner but I'm not having much luck as my money comes in on 3 different days but all on 4 weekly rota's.

Yet I can't plan my direct debits because they are monthly.

Excel is not my strongest point to be able to design this for myself unfortunately but I am looking for something that I can enter all my information into. Payments in, payments out and hopefully be able to see exactly where Im going wrong, right, have money or am skint (I always seem to be the latter so it would be nice to see if I could manage it better)

Any links to such a thing would be fabulous.

  • Captial One amount reclaimed £395

No letter telling me they are making any kind of offer but when I looked online today there has been a Misc Credit Adjustment? on my account for £259 so I guess that's some of the charges, need to just fight for the rest now.

    But rather something than nothing.
