Has anyone else received an email from HP that begins like this, I really dont know if it is genuine. It goes on to want all the details of my son's laptop which is working with no problems.

Important Safety Recall announced 5/14/2009
HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program

May 19, 2010 – PROGRAM EXPANSION

HP is sending you this notice because HP has expanded a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement program in cooperation with various government agencies. HP has added battery packs to the replacement program originally announced on May 14, 2009 and revised on October 15, 2009. Product model series were also added to the list of products that may have been sold with affected batteries. The battery packs have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The affected battery packs were distributed worldwide in certain HP, HP Pavilion, HP Compaq, and Compaq Presario Notebook Computers.

As there are so many dodgy emails flying around nowadays I have no idea whether to act on this or ignore it. Many thanks

  • Hi there

There have been quite a few battery recalls by HP. It's shown on their website (clicky)

Just to confirm what Oscar the Grouch says. HP have been having battery problems since year dot. I got an email over a year ago. same thing.
If ever you suspect an email go direct to the manufacturers web site and try help and support.
A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.

My local Currys store had a notice about this near the tills (meant to post about it on here but forgot until I just read your post - oops!). I did go to their website first to check it out though, as oscar suggests.
