RAC Gold Parts & Labour Warranty
Hello everyone.
I bought a car in January on an 04 plate. This came with a 6 month Motorplan warranty. I have just received the renewal notice for it and it would seem that Motorplan has teamed up with the RAC and the warranty that I have now been offered is RAC Gold Parts and Labour.
The original six month warranty cost £165 and the cost to renew the RAC warranty is £195.00 per annum, so it sounds like a good deal. I could even pay by Direct Debit at £19.50 per month without any additional charge. According to the RAC booklet, this would appear to be a very extensive warranty but I've always been of the opinion that if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
I have never had a warranty on a car before and always taken a chance but with the cost of garage repairs on the increase, if one thing went wrong with my car in the year, it could cost in excess of £200, so the warranty would pay for itself.
I have, however, read a lot of forums on here about other warranties that are available and it would seem that the general opinion is that they are not worth the paper they are written on.
My questions are:
1. Does anyone have any experience of claiming under an RAC warranty?
2. How well was the claim dealt with (if at all).
3. Do they try to wriggle out of paying just like some of the other warranty companies?
4. If I did take it out, could I use my regular garage (which is near work) or would I have to use the garage that the RAC recommend which could be really inconvenient to get to?
I have read all the documentation and there is no mention of any excess on the policy.
If I decided to take this out and pay monthly, just supposing something big went wrong and I'd only paid one instalment, would they still pay out?
I appreciate some of these questions should be asked directly to RAC themselves but I wanted to get your valuable opinions before I make the phone call to them. I am very cynical about such policies but it would be good to hear what you have to say.
Thanks in anticipation.

question 3 do they wriggle out of things like most companies yes after all it is motorplan not the rac underwriting these policies.
i really dont see the point of these warranties most things that go wrong are wear and tear so not covered best thing to do is stick the £195 in a savings account0 -

You'd probabily be in a years contract (like car insurance) and so owe the whole year anyway so whenever they paid out it wouldnt matter.0 -
Study most used car warranties and you will find a disclaimer re: "reached the end of it's life" or words to that effect within the details of the policy. My car, a BWM 328 14 years old, 162k milage and still as good as any new car.
I have a plan with Motorplan (Silver plus exec) up to £500 repair value Parts and Labour. The application form states any car and milage upto 15 years old and any milage. So my proposal is accepted etc, then with a week or so cover left the starter motor expires. I contact my local garage who in turn contact Motorplan to be told that the part has reached the end of it's natural life and cannot be paid under a claim. Yet at the time of the policy acceptence "Any milage and year"...!!! Is this not Miss-representation.
My advise .... most insurances are not worth a penny.
More investigation into this company I think before more adverse publicity form me.......Well p****d off....!:mad:0 -
Hi all,
I'm a first-time car buyer new to all the lingo. Am currently considering a Suzuki Swift from a used car dealership who are offering a choice between GBP 100 off or a 6 month Gold RAC warranty which covers claims up to GBP 1000 and covers all electrical and mechanical components, excluding the below:
'cracked cylinder heads and/or failure to valves as a result of carbon buildup, body paint, glass, interior/exterior trim, in car entertainment, communication system, catalytic converters, wheels, airbags and system, electrical wiring, wiring looms and cables.'
From what I've read on the forum, RAC cover may not be the best idea? Would appreciate feedback as to whether I should just take the 100 pounds off and go with AA (for example) or is it worth going with RAC?

With that list of exclusions you'd be doing well to find something it does cover, no doubt wear and tear feature in case they missed anything.0
