Hi this is my 1st post!!
My OH and me have decided to get married after 5 yrs being together and 2 gorgeous little boys.
Would really like to get married abroad. Family have said they would like to come as well so would like to keep the cost down for them as don't think that they would come if too expensive.
Where is the cheapest place to get married? Is it cheaper to go through a travel agent or sort it out for ourselves?
And how is the best way to get the ball rolling?
Any advice is much apprieciated.
Thanks

Hi funny bunny,
Welcome and congratulations!
I would highly reccommend Gibraltar. It's close, it's sunny, it's easy (and cheap) to get to and it's British!
Being British means no translations, no extra documentation so no extra funds needed for that. The one drawback is that there aren't any beaches to get married on but there are gorgeous gardens, churches and beautiful hotels not to mention historical buildings.
You can fly into Gibraltar airport or Malaga on the Costa del Sol.
My daughter is getting married in Gibraltar in August, we've chosen to stay in Apartments on the Costa del sol but websites like 'mygibraltar' offer package deals to hotels in gib.
She's marrying in the botanical gardens and was having a beach party but the government have brought the airport expansion forward so we're having to move venues! Looks like a pool side reception at one of the hotels now.
Can't give you a final figure yet due to the move of venue but it was looking at about 2/3k maximum.
Have a look!0 -
the hotel i'm going to for my honeymoon in mexico also do wedding packages

Thank you for the replies
Will definately look into both options.
Thanks again0 -
Majorca has fairly cheap hotel and flight deals and its only a couple of hours away from here.
I'd avoid magaluf and try places like Alcudia or Cala d'or.
I've just posted on another thread about cala d'or, try searching for the yacht club in cala d'or, i know they do weddings. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
thanks for the replies:)
Had a look at gibraltar and read a bit on the gibraltar thread and it looks really nice! Do you have to be there for a certain amount of time before getting married?? Also is it a holiday sort of place??
Would love to get married in mexico as i loved it when i went 10yrs ago but i don't think that the family would pay or beable to afford the holiday out there unless could get the holiday package super cheap!!
Majorca is an option as its cheap enough to get there. But will have to look at ceremony destinations.
Thanks again

I have responded on the Gibraltar wedding thread with what it cost me as someone asked the quesation yesterday. You can holiday there but might be better off making your base a few miles further down the coast in Spain. We stayed in the lovely Marina Real apartments in Duquesa which is only approx 20 mins from the border. Sal-ad daze is staying in Duquesa too. Its about 1/2 hour from the water parks in fuengirola and also the safari park. We were just quite happy to laze round the pool tho! Your family could get cheap packages to the costa. I think there's one place in San Pedro in particular but I cant vouch for what its like.
You only have to go to Gib with all your docs to the registry office 24 hours before you wed. We went up on the monday and married on wednesday.
Flights you can fly direct into Gib, Malaga or Jerez. We have done all 3 and as hiring a car each time hasnt been a problem. Easyjet flies into Gib and Malaga, Ryanair into Jerez.
If you need any more info just ask - I'd go back and do it again tomorrow if given half the chance.
Was going to update with better venue pics on the Gib wedding link but I've lost the disc with them on
Good LuckMortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
Gran Canaria is also fairly inexpensive - you need to be in the resort generally 3 days before you get married.
https://www.celebrationsgc.com - this firm is run by an englishman and he has english staff too.0 -

Thanks ladies,
I'm sure you will be hearing a lot from me in the future

I've mentioned on another thread that we are getting married in Lindos, Rhodes - for monetary reasons AND because we met there, 10 years to the day that we hope to get married! But I'm not sure Greece will be as good value as it used to be, with the Euro in such a bad state, and Lindos is quite an expensive resort anyway. But I still reckon it would be cheaper than a wedding here - fewer people for one reason!!
Cyprus is also popular. My fiances niece got married at the Kefalos Beach, Paphos where they do everything - an organiser, the ceremony, the catering, the photography. I don't know how much it was, but she is far from made of money, so I doubt it was expensive. We didn't attend the wedding so can't comment on that either, but we have stayed at this hotel and it is nice. We saw 3 weddings when we stayed there - all completely different: 1 was a couple and their kids and no-one else, another was a big Scottish family in their kilts and everything, and another was a 'designer' type affair with chairs and canopy on the beach and posh frocks all round. So they can cater for any size these places.
And Cyprus covers everything angel223 has said about food, entertainment - a reasonably priced holiday for your family, I think.
Enjoying planning and let us know where you decide on - cos we are nosey!!!If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0
