Thanks guys.

I've had equipment from DSA but not the training or anything. But I'm doing another course as well so that should be ok.

I think I'd rather retake the whole course, although the paying for it myself could be a problem, unless they let me pay in installments (I've got a crap credit rating so they might not). Or if I could just pretend I never took the course and not have it count towards my degree, even if I have to pay for one module it'll give me a couple of years to save up for it.

I guess I'll wait and see what the regional centre say.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I get a DSA. One major problem of the system is that you usually only end up getting your DSA near the end of your first year, so you only get the help you need form year 2 onwards. Anyway, if your other course (which is it?) is a 60-pointer then you are fine. Just don't claim any travel costs, scanning, audio typist help for the DD306 course. Then you will have no problem with using DSA with DD306 in future.

Leeds regional centre are usually helpful. But if you need to visit in person, for God's sake, don't park in Trevalean Square, we got a parking ticket with a blue badge because it is all private land (badly signposted).

My other course is DD202, a 60 pointer. I haven't claimed anything for DD306.

It's a bit complicated, but I'm nearing the end of a history degree, and pride means I've only just applied for the DSA. I've also started doing a Social Sciences degree alongside (WHY didn't I realise I was manic earlier?!). I'm not sure which one I'm getting the DSA for but when I spoke to the assessor they said it didn't really matter.

I live in Leeds so I know about Trevelyan Square being no parking, sorry you got caught out.

You can't pass a course on TMAs alone. You need a minimum of 40% in the TMA component AND a minimum of 40% in the ECA/exam component.

An average of 95% in the TMAs and no ECA submission would still result in a fail.

Yes I know that but some courses you can just resubmit the ECA or resit the exam without having to redo the whole course.

Don't know specific courses but this is from the assessment handbook, and I have resat an exam without having to redo the whole course.

4.7 Resits and resubmissions
If your course allows resits or resubmissions – not all courses do – you’ll be offered only one opportunity to resit or resubmit. No resit examination or resubmission will be permitted more than twenty-four months after your course’s starting date.
Resits and resubmissions are not allowed if you’ve passed the course.
Resitting examinations
If you sit but fail the examination you may be permitted to resit it in the next examination period, provided that you have:
• an overall examinable component score of at least 15 on the University Scale,
• an overall pass (a score of 40 or more on the University Scale) in continuous assessment,
• satisfied any course-specific thresholds, and
• satisfied any residential school requirements your course has.
A few courses have different rules about resitting, and you’ll be told in your course materials what those are.
Resubmitting examined work
If your course has no examination, you may be able to resubmit the examined work – not all courses allow resubmission.
If the examinable component includes both an examination and another piece of work and you fail either, you may be eligible to resit, but you’ll have to undertake both the examination and the other work again.
Registering for resits and resubmission
If appropriate, you’ll receive an offer of registration and a registration agreement in a mailing sent shortly after your course result letter.
Courses for which you’re resitting examinations or resubmitting are counted towards the total number of points (120) for which you may register in any one year.
to undertake some written work. Arrangements to do with the examination will be sent to you separately from your course result letter.

Thanks for this thread, it's made me realise that there IS something I can do about pausing my current studies and perhaps getting some financial credit towards re-registering for the course later in the year.
Well, I went away and read the guidelines.

I sent a "contact us" message to my tutor the next day, on 1 June.

I sent a "contact us" message to my local OU office on 4 June.

My TMA deadline (the one I cannot manage) is tomorrow, 10 June. Do you think I'll actually hear from either of the above by then, as I haven't yet

It's probably best if you telephone them. There should be a number on your registration documents or use the telephone numbers on the website. Then at least you'll get an answer

Tigsteroonie, I emailed my tutor about an extension, and didn't hear from him for about a month. It happened to coincide with the time I complained about him.

I've decided to interrupt my studies for one of my courses, and contact the project's office for the other one, which I missed the OEC deadline for. The regional office suggested I do that. So I can concentrate on that for the summer, then start afresh from Sept/Oct.
