Faulty laptop

Hi everyone,
I bought a laptop last June. The screen started flashing and the only way I could stop it was moving the screen back and forward. I took it back to the shop and I was told I would have to contact the manufacture. Which I did (cost me £10 for the phone call) and the laptop had to be sent back to them for repair. I got the laptop back on the 4th of April inside the box there was fault report there was a lose connection on the moniter. However the fault has now returned. I took the laptop back to the shop and was again told to phone the manufacture. I asked if the assistant could do it as I was not spending another £10 on phone calls. Again it has to be sent back to the manufacture. This means another 5-7 days without my laptop.
What are my consumer rights here?
Thanks

You have the right to a repair, replacement or (partial) refund. What are my consumer rights here?
You have the choice of remedy, but the retailer can refuse those which are too expensive. So retailer effectively has the choice.
The remedy should not unreasonably inconvenience you.
As an aside...
When the manufacturer's warranty runs out, you rights do not.
Your consumer rights are with the retailer, not the manufacturer.0 -
Just a wild guess here.... Acer?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

5-7days is a pretty good turn around for repair of a laptop. May be not acer then0

Hi
I purchased my Targa laptop from Lidl just shy of 12 months ago. I returned it to Targa last week (still within the 12 months) - as the charging socket started to become loose and eventually stopped charging altogether.
I have now been sent an estimate from 'Let Me Repair' for 176.00 pounds for labour charges, handling, inspection and shipping and soldering which stated that this 'mechanical damage' repair is not covered under warranty.
Is this correct? What good is this warranty if it doesn't cover simple things like this?
Could anyone give me some advice on this, please0 -
They are suggesting that you have damaged the thing. Is this correct? What good is this warranty if it doesn't cover simple things like this?

No warranty covers user damage.
Of course no-one here can possibly decide whether it is user damage or not as we haven't seen it.
Maybe get an independant report stating that the fault is inherent, and present that to Lidl, being the seller.0 -

Hi everyone,
Yes your right it is an acer. Are you trying to tell me this a common problem with these laptops. It has to go back to Plymouth thats where their repair department is
Thanks

Not so much a common problem, just that it seems to affect Acers more than any other. But not really that common.
Oh, and you're sending to Infoteam. Good luck. Check it over thoroughly before and after the repair.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Hi Esqui,
You have got me scared now:eek: what do you mean check it before and after thoroughly.
Just say for instance it I send it away and the fault returns again would I be within my rights to demand either a refund or replacement.
Thanks

There's no limit on the number of times they can repair an item unfortantly.0

I don't mean to scare you! I have just seen a couple of laptops returned in a "less-than-perfect" state from that particular centre. Though for balance, there have been more sent back in perfect condition.
As Mankysteve says, there's no limit to the number of times they can repair, providing each time is without significant inconvenience to you, and is not disproportionately costly to them. Obviously, as time goes on, this is going to become less and less likely.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you.
