Supermarket workers pay comparisons.

Hi all, I am going to be starting college in September so I will be looking for some sort of casual work, I was thinking working for a supermarket may be a good idea and that led me to wonder which supermarket pays the most?

If you work for a supermarket currently maybe you could give me an insight into how much you are paid, I'm talking hourly rates for a new starter over 22. I'd imagine quite a few people could find this info useful and I was surprised when I couldn't find a similar thread using the forum search. Also would be interested in other info like staff discount % etc.

Thanks in advance,

Sam.

Most of the discounts will be in the region of 10%, and won't kick in till you have either 3 months or 6 months service with the company

Tesco's give you a discount card after 12 months, the pay at Tesco's depends on the location of the store you work in.
I worked in a small Tesco's supermarket (not a Metro/Express store) in a very affluent area, and because of this, the store had the highest profit per square foot in the area. So we were paid more than other other Tesco staff in the area, cant remeber the exact figure but was nearly a £ an hour more.
Also you may get 'London Weighting' my store was about an hour from london so we got a few pence extra an hour because of the increased cost of living.

The qualifying service for the Tesco discount card was amended a year or two ago.It is now given after 6 months service.

At Waitrose I got paid £6.40 at eighteen, you get discount at John Lewis and Waitrose, plus loads of extra discounts.
