Windows 7 Zoostorm FreedomXL 250GB 10.2in Netbook £199.99 @ Argos (was £249.99)
Needed Just to surf the internet around the house and maybe another odd task.
Has good specs 250 gb hdd, screen is 10" - should be enough for the net.
£190 value or not?? (inc £10 vouch)

Seems to be a fair few people in the reviews that comment on the dreadful build quality and them having to be returned in the first couple of weeks due to them breaking.
1 GB of RAM (with half GB cache) to run Windows 7 is not ideal and it'll drag its !!!! if you have more than a couple of programs running and browser tabs open. It doesn't say whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit Windows either - if it's the 64-bit version then you'll struggle to get it to run at all on that amount of RAM.
If you insist on getting a netbook instead of saving up another £100 for a proper laptop which will do the job far better, then I recommend you look at the Samsung N-series ones instead of these cheapo brands with shoddy build quality that no-one's ever heard of.0 -
Can anybody else suggest any netbooks for £200 or less ??
MSE suggested this on 18th May
Cheapest brand new:
Zoostorm Freedom from £150
The Zoostorm Freedom is tiny, with an 8.9 inch screen, but is brand new in the Argos Clearance eBay section for £149.99. Again it offers a 12 month warranty.
This netbook is the cheapest brand new netbook we have found, so it doesn't carry as high a spec as some competitors, but is a handy mini laptop to have. If you're lucky enough to have one of the eBay discount codes mentioned about, you can get 10% off.
It may be the same price as the refurb above but we've put it second, despite it being new, as the model is a relative unknown quantity.
Specs:
Operating System: Windows XP home
Screen: 8.9" (1024 x 600 windscreen)
Hard Drive: 160GB SATA
Processor: Atom N270 1.6Ghz
Memory: 1GB
Battery: (3.5 hours max)0 -
I'd suggest going and looking at one of those before you decide to buy. An 8.9" screen is incredibly small and I personally think you'd be hard pushed to read the text on forums etc without having to zoom in and scroll around the page to see it all.
The spec on that is fine to run XP but I'd be very put off by the screen size and I think the price is a bit high for what it is. If you're happy with both those factors and also the aforementioned suspect build quality then buy it.0 -
Changed mind.
All things considered - lack of memory / screen size / windows 7 starter not premium / unknown brand / slow operating speed
Will stick now to old desktop etc.

i bought this two months ago, its a good deal. but i preferred my older netbook, an asus one and the samsung model is beter in build, but the zoostorm offers windows 7 starter
it isn't slow, it runs the same speed as a netbook on xp
the battery life is only 2 hours but i use it at home exclusively so no real issue there0 -
Hi,
I'm buying a netbook on behalf of my Dad and would like to go for a Samsung (probs be a N130).
I've done the usual price comparison sites and it looks like I could get one new for £220. Anyone know if there's any offers on at the mo or is that the realistic price I'd end up paying? Also, does anyone know what the price is in CostCo?
If I was buying for myself I'd get a refurb no problem but I think my Dad would much prefer a new one.
Many thanks for reading,

Does anyone know the return address for D & J Henry. Is it the one with CV3 4LH postcode?
I arranged a collection with them, but DHL refused to take it as it has no address on it (I thought DHL got the address from D&J when the collection was booked by the latter).
They told my father they will come to collect it tomorrow again, but it is too late now to call D&J to ask for the address.0 -
