Can't connect to the internet via router?

I have a wireless router, a Linksys wag54g. I have had internet access before from this router but after a reformat, it has stopped working.
I can ping iton the setup screen and that works fine.
I have entered all the details as before but when I get to the connection screen via the 192.168 command, its just a row of noughts and the connect and disconnect buttons are greyed out.
I have tried everything, searched tons of onlines forums ect but I can't find the problem, can you shed any light?

Is there a reset button on the unit? It will return it to factory settings when depressed (a bit like you I would guess!) and hopefully you can start again. Also just completely unplugging the unit from everything and leaving it for 5 - 10 mins can work wonders.
If you can get to it with the 192.168.1.1 route it would suggest it's a firmware glitch.0 -
I have tried the reset button and also the factory defaults from within the setup screen to no avail

I have a niggling feeling that its something I am doing wrong somehow and that the router isn't broken. I am on the verge of binning it and buying a new one but I keep going back and trying again as everything else on the router seems to work, it just won't access the internet :mad:Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
I'm afraid I don't know the unit that you have, but if the connect/disconnect buttons are greyed out it suggests that the unit can't find anything to connect to or disconnect from. If this is the case, you may not have set it up correctly. The (fairly) obvious thing that springs to mind is the multiplexing; have you set it to VC and the correct encapsulation, normally PPPoA?0

I don't know about the mulitplexing, I will have to have a look at that but I am sure its set to PPPoa as a default.Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110

This might sound silly but make sure you switch it all on in the correct order: Modem, Router and lastly the PC. I have just bought the Linksys Router and if I don't follow this procedure the internet just won't work. Also, despite the claims about operating range I find it very temperamental even though the PC is only about 12 feet from the router!0

I have one of these and experienced some difficulty initially setting it up but now that is over, I have not experienced any probs. (yet).
When I bought mine, there was a freepone number included in case any probs arose. I used it any was connected (to net) within 15 minutes, if this facility is still operational, it may be worth a try.
The number is (or was) 0800-026-1418.0
