Go over to the debt free wannabe board and ask the guys over there to point in the direction of the "prove it" letter template.
If you have no knowledge of the debt you should demand proof that you ran up the debt before paying, legally, anyone chasing you for a debt has to prove the debt exists and that you are liable, it is not upto you to disprove the debt.
Send off the prove it letter (recorded delivery), see what comes back, then post again for some further advice......."A wise man once told me don't argue with fools because people from a distance can't tell who is who"........0 -
I agree with what toffe says, the debtfreewannabe's have the expertise to deal with this - and will always help dealing with DCA's, regardless of whether have a debt problem.
Something to understand here is that DCA's do not necessarily care about who they get their money from - if someone has moved on, leaving a dormant debt - or even a debt which is paid off but mistakenly not recorded - a DCA will buy this debt and chase anyone with a similar name or date of birth or any pretext, without regard for truth. I understand that once an alleged debt is paid off, they won't try and claim on it from anyone else, but I would not stake very much on this being always true.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
