Built in kitchen appliances

Because, as the OP pointed out, integrated appliances are ridiculously expensive, and it is not particularly difficult to end up with freestanding units neatly tucked away (in fact, IMO, neater than the integrated units, which often have the controls on show anyway even if the rest of the appliance isn't). As I pointed out, it was our (very decent) kitchen fitter who made the suggestion in the first place. As for the plinths, not only were all the fittings hidden behind (so no screws on show, unlike if they'd been conventionally fitted), but it was very convenient being able to lift them off to clean underneath the units.0
