Advice on a new vacuum cleaner.

We have a Dyson DC01 and it is not very good. Amittedly an early model.
Very heavy and does not clean up to edges - either the side or front.
We previously had a Miele which was - and still is fantastic. Unfortunately pinched by our son.
We now also have a cylinder VAX, given to us, which needed servicing. VAX service was terrific, and at a fixed price or replacement. We were sent return labels and packaging and VAX arranged collection.
The VAX is terrific and it is as though we have never had a vacuum cleaner before. The bags last for ages.
Don't get hooked on having to have a cleaner which has no bag!0 -
Don't get hooked on having to have a cleaner which has no bag!
years ago i had a cleaner , a foreign import , and i ran out of bags and the only place that supplied them was about an hrs drive away , as an improvisation i cut the bottom of the bag emptied the stuff out in the bin then taped the bag up where i had cut it , no problems ,worked fine and didnt have to buy bags for it again after that .
why bother .my favourite food is spare ribs0 -
1stday, i know you have more or less made your decision, but i'll still pop this over to I wanna. Does no harm to get more input from others
x A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Decisions, Decisions, I have now seem some Vax with good reviews and they are cheaper than Dyson's. I think the Meile are out of my price range really, well I will keep looking.
Thanks again for you help.0 -
Henry for me every time, does the job of a dyson no problem and half the price.
Henry for me too does what it says on the box
and is tough as old boots, already got through
Dysons had 3 and a Meile top spec one when
I think of it now packed in 3 days out of the
guaruntee the repair bill from Meile was almost
as expensivre as buying another one new.
I have learned some very expensive lessons
buying vacuums.:j:j:j0 -
I got a reconditioned Lift Off from Bissell Direct last year and it's brilliant, still lots of superstrong suction. It was just like new0

Henry/Numatic for me every time! I got my Numatic of the internet - its an industrial one (same as henry but a bit bigger and without the name) - I am a hoover seriel killer - you name it ...I have had it and broken it! including dyson. Someone on here recommended the Henry - I got a fab deal of the net and I have had it since we moved house - so 5 1/2 years ago.... normally I kill them just after the guarantee runs out (and before in some cases). I also had 2 white cats (only one now :-( ) and it is fab at picking up the white hair that clings to everything. They can be run bagless - but I always use a bag (got 10 of ebay plus the ones that came with it - and I am just nearly out now!!!they last a long time).
I would recommend Henry (or one other there othere ones) every single time - If it withstands my hooveraholic habits then you know they are really good!Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)0 -
Miele, mines over 15 years old and has only ever needed the bags changing.0
