Advice on a new vacuum cleaner.

Sorry if this isn't in the right place but I am hoping someone can help me.

I need to buy a new vacuum cleaner, the one I have at the moment was bought very cheaply and doesn't pick up anything and have no idea were to start.
Any advice greatly recieved.

I love my Dyson. I'd never go back to a vaccuum with bags for anything. They can be expensive but worth it IMO. OK motor has died on it once (it's about 10 years old) but my local repair man is a authorised dealer and has all the parts etc so was easily fixed. You could check out a vac repair man and see if he's got any re-conditioned Dysons for sale if you can't afford a brand new one.

I bought a reconditioned Dyson DC06 from eBay for about £60 and I could not be happier with it.

Suction is excellent. In fact, it almost lifts the carpets! My mum has a Henry but I took my Dyson round and just after she'd hoovered managed to fill the cylinder with stuff the Henry had missed.

Henry for me every time, does the job of a dyson no problem and half the price.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

My mum bought a dyson after seeing how good mine was (I bought mine in a tantrum after yet another cheap vacuum cleaner had died on me mid clean). She was shocked how much of what she thought was clean actually wasn't! Some of her carpets changed colour when she used the turbo brush and she got three cylinders of dirt from one room first time (probably years of ingrained dog and cat hair).

I will second that I have the Miele cat and dog and its a great hoover and has lasted longer than any other hoover i have had.
We had nothing but probleems with our dyson so after trying 2 different models we ended up buying the miele
