Cookies problem, driving me bananas

Hi,
I promise to have searched for this already but to no avail.
Until recently, I had been using quidco fine no problem.

As of yesterday on my home PC I get the following error message "Cookies are disabled in your browser. Cookies are required to login."

Using my work PC I can access my account no problem (so assuming no problem form the quidco end).

I've checked my settings in IE6 under tools, intenet options, privacy, advanced and selected to allow first/third party cookies and always allow session cookies (have tried default option also)

Using Ccleaner I can tell cookies are still being allowed by other sites. I've tried uninstalling spybot, windows defender, avast (more in desperation than anything else) - still same error.

I downloaded slimbrowser - still same error.

Anybody have any ideas - driving me nuts :-)

you can add quidco specifically in IE to allow quidco to save cookies: tools > internet options> privacy >sites.
this has worked for other quidco users
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?
  • Hi Woo,

Thanks, but I forgot to say I'd tried that too (using your earlier post on someone else's thread).

Have just tried again to make double sure, and still same problem.

    Thanks for looking though

I've had this problem. Turned out to be my system time was wrong. Other things; If you tend to leave your PC on, reboot it. Clear your SSL slate and run ccleaner.
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the quidco cookie has a problem either.

what version of IE are you using?

  • Blimey, it's friendlier and cheaper than a PC world helpline this! Much appreciated for the speedy responses. I do turn the PC off daily, in all honesty it gets rebooted at least thrice daily by me or partner.

I'm on IE6 - in my desperation yesterday I decided that was to blame, and after slimbrowser failed, I downloaded beta version of ie7 (looks horrible mind), since then have uninstalled both ie7, and slimbrowser, so now back on ie6.

Couple of questions if i could be so cheeky? How do I check system time (don't laugh when i say this, but the clock in bottom right looks ok), and additionally, how would I clear out the SSL ?

Have just run ccleaner again, even tried with partners quidco account, still getting same error (both on mine and hers).

i had cookie issues with IE 7.. have you tried using firefox? probably a sledge hammer to break a nut but worth a try.

windows picks up your system time automatically so if the clock is right then your system time should be right.

IE, Tools, Internet Options, Content tab. Under Certificates, click Clear SSL State. Click OK when you receive the message that the SSL cache was successfully cleared.

Just double click the time and make sure the date etc is correct.
  • Ladies/Gents (delete as appropriate) - Thankyou very much for your speedy help and suggestions.

This is where I feel like crawling into a hole.

Cleared the SSL State, double clicked on time, yep, all ok...and then er...noticed it was 23rd September. Changed it back, and all ok.

Still to take a postive from everything - I've now tried ie7, practised with different browsers, and now know far more about cookies than I'd ever dreamt of.

Once again, Thankyou !..and Woo, I might give Firefox a go anyway. Often read people suggesting it as a good alternative.

LOL you will find that there are really knowledgeable peeps in here, all friendly and ready to give their help unstintingly. I have been helped tremendously and the MSE Techie forum is my first port of call whenever I can't sort out things myself. I have also learned a lot.

    :T :T :T :T to all the whiz kids in here! :p
