Bluetooth problems on laptop

My laptop's bluetooth has 'suddenly' stopped working.
When I click on settings & press the 'new connection' button, it says that bluetooth is not ready.
Even when I have it up for about 30 mins, it still says the same thing. I've tried everything I can think of to check if I have something ticked that shouldn't, but not sure what I'm looking for and the help tool's not really helpful.
I tried to transfer a pic from my mobile and it 'saw' the computer, but the transfer failed, I think due to the laptop settings - help:(

Try visiting your bluetooth manufacturers website and see if a firmware upgrade is available - failing that, try reinstalling the drivers.
It may also be a firewall issue, try again with your filewall switched off.0
