Distance Selling: PC world. Do I have full right if i buy online and collect in store

Distance Selling question:

PC world.

Do I have full right if i 'buy online' and 'collect in store'?

Or do I instantly become disqualified if i collect the online purchase from the store?

Many Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong but you only order online and pay when you collect. So I would say probably not covered under DSR.

As your going to collect then you can examine the goods in the store. The right of examining the goods is basically the purpose of the DSR.

To be eligible for DSR you must have no face to face contact with the seller.

DSR does not apply in this situation.

If you want the protection of DSR, get it delivered.

PC World do, however, allow you to return goods, as long as you haven't opened them.

What is the item you are concerned about?

    Hi

    Thanks for this

I was going to get a laptop.

so in this situation, its about 'where' you pay for the item. if i pay in store i loose my distance selling rights. excellent. now i know.:money:

    just out of interest:
what if i bought something online and went to collect it. is that the 'right to inspect thing' would i loose my distance selling rights

I am not sure that's entirely correct.

Its all about whether you have the opportunity to inspect the goods before purchase... as you would in a straight forward shop purchase.

So, if PCW were happy to take your money online, and you had the opportunity to inspect the thing when collecting instore, it is possible that DSR may not apply. Especially if PCW were prepared to refund after inspection.

In fairness, the DSR are there to stop a retailer sending you rubbish.
If you can inspect instore, that problem disappears.

I agree with the above, i think it depends on when you pay, if you reserve but dont pay, then you have an opportunity to inspect the goods before paying and could just walk away, if you pay before then you havnt had a chance to inpect the goods before forming a contract so DSR should apply.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

    cheers guys

    that clears it up

that's probably why they don't take payment online for local pickups :)

No, it's entirely so that they can try and sell you 'extended warranties' and other scams when you go to the store.

Also, most of the time the item will not be in stock when you get there, because any real bargains which get reserved are 'lost' in the stockroom, so that the staff can buy them instead to sell on eBay (or they will have stolen them already).

It's probably easier to go into store if you're happy to. That way, if you don't like it, you don't have to pay to return it under DSR - you just don't buy it!

i have took things back to the store that were broken before, that i had bought online

    but now i realise:
    • I can look in store
    • buy online
    • get it delivered
    • and then if I'm unhappy return it to the store no questions
