Strange itunes issue

I currently have an issue with a machine on my network where itunes cannot access the store. All other apps (such as firefox, IE and apple software update) can access the net fine but itunes just throws up an error message saying that it can't connect to the net (there isn't an error code either ).
I've allowed itunes full access to the net in the mcafee firewall (yes, i know mcafee is crap but the user likes it) and it still cant connect to the store even though every other machine on my network connects to itunes fine.
I've even reimaged the machine from the recovery partition to fix another issue but itunes still refuses to connect to the store (it refused before the reimage as well). the affected machine can see my shared itunes library on my NAS showing that it has some network access.
the machine is running the latest x64 version of itunes on Win7 x64.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
