Bought new (10mth old) car today and it doesn't start!
Options
Hi,
Today I collected a Vauxhall Insignia, from an authorised dealer at only 10 months old and 8,300 miles on the clock.
I drove the vehicle from the dealership, to my mothers, approx 8 miles and the car wouldn't start from then (kicking over). I called the dealer and they came out and it started without any problems. Typical!
Furthermore, the car was used a little more before having the same problem. Being out of hours, no-one from Vauxhall was able to take a call from me. I decided to call the AA - who after plugging various bits in suggested it was a lack of fuel pressure.
Since I have had 2 failed starts within 4 hours of owning the car, I find this unacceptable.
Moreover, when purchasing the vehicle at £15,000 I added the GAP insurance at £399.99 and was told the floor matts etc would be free. Also, I declinced the option to have paint protection on the car. Therefore the vehicle should have been £15,399.99 BUT I was billed for the 3 extras which worked out at about £15,890!
As they had over charged me, they said I would be given; parking sensors (rear) and 1 year warranty to compensate. I agreed.
Futhermore, I was told the vehicle was owned by Vauxhall and they were the only owner, but due to a mistake on their part (breaking the data protection act) they left the details of the former owner in the glove box! I called the previous owner after my problem, who confirmed that he had no issues and parking sensors were already fitted!!!!
It gets worse, after checking the invoice over they have played with figures and billed me for the full price of the extended warranty (not reduced price as promised) and matts (which should have been free) to make sure that the invoice total didn't include the parking sensors to cover themselves and meet the price they had billed for.
Obviously I am very angry, but love this car, can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks

well if it were me with the faults experienced on day of pick up and the blatant lies of sales people at dealer (no surprise there) i would be demanding a refund.
you say you love the car but dont worry there are plenty of insignia's about so as said demand the refund and go elsewhere if they have told all these porkies then they do not deserve the sale anyway.0 -
The issue is I have some of this car on finance (paid £5k) and don't have much of a credit history so getting another may not be so simple?0
-
Nice to see Vauxhall have sorted out the fuel pressure problems. Not!
Just a few points...
You say they were giving you parking sensors, but they were already fitted? Didn't you question this or spot these were already on the car?
It's hardly breaking the DPA by leaving some info in the car who the previous owner was. As that'd mean that everyone on earth was breaking the DPA by leaving service bills, reciepts in the glovebox etc.can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks
erm, yeah: Chill out.0 -
Harvey, excuse me for being a little annoyed for being stranded with my 6 month old son and 3 year old son, whilst it was thundering & lightening, hours after buying a car worth just under £16,000!
So I should expect a replacement car of equal or better spec untill repaired?0 -
Also, the parking sensors were not listed in the spec and I did not know that they were on.
With regards the DPA - leaving someones; name, address, contact no, bank details etc etc in the vehicle is not breaking the DPA what is? And as for leaving receipts in the glovebox - yes people do it, in their own car!0 -
Kindly ask them to recify the car next week when they open. As the car is under warranty I dont see what the problem is.
I have 48 cars outside and I bet if I went thru every one of them I'd say 95% of them would have details of the driver, address, company, mobile phone numbers, email addresses etc. So am I breaking the DPA by leaving them in? Don't think so.0 -
Well today I took ownership of a 8 month old Focus also from a main dealer. Was told about and declined GAP insurance, Paint protection and Pureguard for supposedly protecting the upholstery against stains. Refused GAP because don't want it, same for the paint protection and told them I had Pureguard on the car I was PX ing and didn't think it was any use.
But she did talk me through every single item on the invoice and double checked I agreed before signing and paying the balance.
Did you not check what you were paying for? Didn't you notice the stupid little discs on the rear bumper when you did your pre-acceptance inspection? Did you not select reverse at any time on the test drive?
And you were very unfortunate about the starting problems, especially with your little ones in the car. But some cars can play up as they come off of the production line, or never ever till they are scrapped
And they didn't exactly contravene the DPA. All the previous owners' details would be on the log book.0 -
Harvey, you don't see what the problem is? - I will be staying away from your car lot. My dad is a car sales man, and he would go MAD if this happened to him. I don't understand why you seem to think trading like that is acceptable? He told me going direct to the dealer for this kind of money for a car would be for the best, obviously not.
Perhaps you should put the shoe on the other foot, instead of being a typical salesman. I sell kitchen appliances and if one were to go wrong from day one I wouldn't think it acceptable to just bumble along......hency why I am a top rated ebay seller.
The DPA.

It is an offence for Other Parties to obtain this personal data without authorisation.
Please show me the legislation that makes it ok for you to share other peoples details.
Harvey - dont post back I really need some contructive advise from real people, not from a car sales man.0 -
Bill,
I have never had an expensive car before, this is expensive to me a Peugeot 307 coming second, so I was unaware on what parking sensors would look like sound like so on so forth. I am only 22 and very inexperienced (as you can tell).
Moreover, I did notice the invoice before paying and challenged it. The dealer said since I had little credit to amend it they would need to do another search and it would increase my chances of declining so they offered me the extended warranty and parking sensors in exchange.
I am really annoyed about this issue, more so because I have the boys and the youngest is really not well at the minute but also because I love it - which makes it much harder.
Also, can I just confirm that the bank details of the previous owner was present.0 -
