can you use a 1mb memory card instead or will it damage the camera.

Stick to the specified limit, unless you have confirmed reports that a larger card works.

I don't think putting a bigger card in would damage the camera, it just wouldn't work.

When you say won't work will it not hold any photos.

i have the vivitar 4345 (4 MP) and mine works with 1 GIG cards however it does say only 512 mb on the box.
Sometimes its slow to load the photos though so maybe thats why the recommend a 512MB

According to the Crucial website here up to 2GB SD cards will work in your camera, if it isnt compatible then they will give a refund when you return it.

I've just seen the vivitar 4345 in Superdrug and i can get it for £45.

I need a digital camera as a present for a friend of ours.

They have never had a digital camera before.

i was thinking of getting this one.

Would you recommend it.

When you say slow to load do you mean load on the pc or in taking pics.

I've got a 1gb sd memory card coming not a multimedia card.

Will that affect the camera.

MMC and SD look very similar shape and size crucial say is supports 1GB in both flavours so it doesnt matter.

Speed of reading the cards depends on the camera and the card in the camera, high speed cards allow the camera to read them quicker but the quick speeds will only be achieved if the camera can read that quick I doubt a £45 will realy benifit from the high speed cards available.
