Do Natwest lack up to date software?

I only ask this because i have 3 DD due on Tues 1st, but already the funds are not available in my account. I have just logged onto internet banking and whilst the 3 DD have the 1st as they day they have been debited, the funds are already not available.

I've been aware of this in the 2 years i have been banking with them so always think ahead and make sure i have the funds to cover this when they do it.

However if i didn't, or other customers didn't, would they charge you? I mean if you went into the bank Tues morning and put money in.

Also why do they do this? How hard is it to process the request on Tues when they're due, why so early, why does a bank holiday make it so much harder, cos if it wasn't a bank holiday, id just log in Tues morning to see them having been debited.

NatWest book transactions before they occur however, you won't incur a charge for a transaction that will send you overdrawn so long as you get funds in there by the end of the day that it says the charge comes out.

On the flipside, NatWest also credit Monday's BACS on the Saturday and you don't have to wait for Monday to roll around before you can spend it.

How hard is it to process the request on Tues when they're due,

DDs are a bulk process operation and done overnight. So they're actually due to be processed overnight Mon which ..... being a Bank Holiday ..... they're unlikely to be running their Batch processes.

If you want to avoid this sort of pre-process you need to move to Halifax who don't pre-empt DDs in this way. But neither will they bring forward any BACS Direct Credits, for salary payments, also due on the 31st / 1st.

I'm with Natwest and I always see direct debits which are due out of my account on a Monday (or Tues if Bank Holiday) by Saturday morning at the latest.

They are pending and therefore the money isn't available to you.

They seem to be very much an in advance bank as I also have made payments to my 2 credit cards and whilst these aren't even showing as pending transcations the available amount of money available to me takes these payments into account.

I prefer it in someways as it gives me a check on my balance a few days/transcations in advance.

Because the account terms and conditions state clearly that you need to have funds in the working bay before the item is due out.
