Quick question on planter drainage

Hi all
I have just bought a couple of Haxnicks herb and strawberry planters and they mention using gravel or other suitable drainage material in the bottom.
Any ideas what I can use? I don't fancy buying an expensive small bag of gravel and don't have any broken plantpots.
TIA

I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

broken up polystyrene from packing or plant containers is good and also if the pot is quite heavy it doesn't add any extra weight.:A0
