Windows Vista update to Works etc

Options
Hi all. We are running Windows Vista and cannot open certain Works and .doc attachments.

Could you possibly let me have a short cut for that up-grade please ??

Many thanks this is rather urgent.

    What upgrade?

There is nothing that should stop you opening Works documents (in MS Works) or even .doc documents.

    Has something changed recently?

Nothing changed at all......but i can't remember ever being able to open those before.

Anything to do with the fact that we are using Microsoft Office Word 2003 ??

As an example, our daughter' CV has 4 pages. When she tries to download it direct from an email, the systems says it cannot as file might be corrupted. If she saves it on the desktop as Works .doc file, there are now 2 pages instead of 4 as if the CV had been condensed.

I am using Word 2002 and it is fine, so that should not be the issue.

Works does not save files in .doc format

Microsoft Works doesn't read MS Office 2003 files.

Pop over to https://www.openoffice.org and download the free OpenOffice Suite which is MS Office compatible.

Daughter sent it to me at work (Windows XP)from her laptop at Uni (Windows XP) for me to print. I then sent it home for her mum to check on her own laptop (Windows XP)and it all worked perfectly.....daughter is now home and tried to open it it straight from her Gmail account onto our study PC (Vista)......bits missing, can't open document message etc....

    Possible

OpenOffice is a fantastic free resource.

It opens word files with no problem.

Not sure about Works ones though, it has been years since I used that for anything

Yes. There might be the odd formatting issue but on the whole, its not too bad. I install it on every laptop I sell.
