Cancelled Car Insurance

Hi everyone

I cancelled my car insurance today and I am getting a refund of £790.

They told me they can only refund to the debt card that is already on file which is stupid. I can't remember which bank account I used to pay for the insurance but I have a feeling it may very well be an account I recently closed.

I read out my debit card numbers to them and they said it's not the card number they have on file.

Assuming I paid with the account that is now closed, what will happen?

I explained all of this to the insurance company but they weren't prepared to refund the amount to another of my accounts.

Thanks.

Do you have any statement you can check??
If not it's a good idea to keep some records in future.

Call the bank and ask them to send you a cheque.

Sounds like the insurers are thinking that this could be a money laundering issue and this will be their normal procedure for making refunds.

I agree with cogito. Its an anti-money laundering thing. Its normal for refunds to go to the say payment method.
