I have recently been turned down for a job through the vetting process
but not to do with myself but a family member on my wifes side. I have appealed against this but was told i had no right of appeal surely this cant be right its victimising me against someone else, has this happened to any one else i just dont know what to do next if there is anything i can do.
Thanks

I've not heard of this but it seems extremely unfair. Ask the CAB?The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

This happened to me bcos my ex was still linked to me on my credit report, and it was a job with a bank. He was BAD news financially!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Is it a fairly senior job or is the vetting process really vital in the job you are wanting to do? Have you been financially linked with this family member? You could try speaking to ACAS to see what they have to say about it or to give any advise of what you should do.Weight Loss - 102lb0

Is it for the Police Force? I know they can do this, I know someone who failed vetting because their husbands brother was a drug dealer, despite having had no contact for about 10 years.0

Yes it is for the police force its so annoying when i have a clear record, did the person who you know that failed get anywhere with it. I have dedicated the last 18mths of my life passing everything that was needed and then for this to happen its unreal. I know that i have failed because of someone else because i was called for an interview to do with this person its as though they dont believe what i say.0

It depends on the nature of what the relative did, I was going to apply a while back but couldn't because my partner at the time was about to declare bankruptcy and I knew they'd reject me on those grounds.
The person I know who was rejected didn't pursue the matter, but it does seem very unfair. I would probably be rejected even though I've split with the ex because my Mums brother was shot about 15 years ago in relation to drug dealing.
I personally wouldn't have volunteered the names of relatives that aren't immediate family. Or you could say that your a disabled, homosexual asylum seeker, then when they reject you say its against your human rights! :rotfl:0 -

You have to provide details of everyone they ask for on the form. If you don't provide details and they later find out then that is a major mark against your name - especially if they have a record.
The vetting stage should be done when they first receive the application form and not after exam/fitness test etc etc that you need to do. Personally I would write a letter of complaint to the Professional Standards Unit of the Police Force concerned as this should be one of the first steps of the application - not one of the last!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Doesn't it depend on what the relatyed person has done and how long ago they did it?
I mean if he/she's a mass axe murderer I don't think there's much point in appealing but if its petty theft or somethig less serious then you should look into and I would also make a complaint as suggested above!0 -
The wifes brother has been in a lot of trouble for being violent abusive whilst being drunk, he has been to prison for a few mths. I am 43yrs old and have never been in any trouble i have good references etc, the thing is you cannot speak to anyone about this. I just hope other people dont have to go through this its upsetting.0

Think this is grossly unfair,I presume he doesnt live with you.0
