Kitchen Tap - sudden gush of water

Hi all
For a few months now, on and off, whenever the kitchen tap is turned on there will be some free movement in the tap followe by a loud clicking sound. A sudden burst of water ensues, invariably soaking anything unfortunate enought to be in the vicinity.
Question:
Is this related to lubrication / amount of grease around the tap's mechanism, and if so, how easy is this to recitfy, bearing in mind I have no plumbing experience whatseover.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

most likely just needs a strip down, clean, lubricating, and a reassemble, with a new washer.Get some gorm.0
