We have this on a double basis as everything that DS takes to scout camp must be labled too, what I do with underwear and socks is embroider his initials into the top.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

    F U Fund currently at £250
  • I am gradually throwing away OH labeled pants and shorts and t shirts! He was at boarding school and everything was labeled with a sew in tag (must have taken his mum ages!) Finally the t-shirts and pants are looking a little worn, 8 years on!

Mum always made me sew my labels in, and i had pernamant pen writen on them. I still have some of my sew on labels. I even have a towel my Dad used at school which still has his sewn on label (we have the same initials!) which has never gone walkies!

I only label clothing, not pants or socks (although I do do vests).

Socks and pants - crazy!! As Kelinik says they would itch. Where would you put the label on a sock!!

I have nothing to do with this Co - just a satisfied customer.

They stay on in the wash, are easy to apply and good value for money.

I bought my son's lables from this site as well. Got nothing but good things to say about these lables and the price is not bad either.

Mine are all written in with a laundry marker, I would challenge them on it. Say you'll review them every term & write over the top again if the pen fades. The tip about writing on the actual clothes is brilliant, hadnt thought of that.

How are you meant to label things like shoes? plimsoles, socks etc? I just write their names in the back.

I just write the name on the label. It doesnt stop DD losing everything she possibly can on the ocurse of a term, and I try to remember to take a carrier bag with me when it's 'lost property day' ;)

You can buy special stickers for inside shoes but I cant remember where. Best TRY to encourage your kids not to loose their stuff (failed with dd she lost her trousers once )

  • http://www.minilabels.co.uk do all sorts of labels including iron on, shoe labels, etc etc. Thankfully my children are all grown up now so the annual labelling nightmare is over but when my DS started grammar school I spent hours painfully sewing on labels, even onto his sock tops:eek: Didn't stop him losing most things during the term, or if they weren't lost, they were ruined beyond repair. I still have some of his labels left; am tempted to label his university gear now since most of that didn't come home either at the end of term:mad:

The sew on ones look expensive but they can be reused - I just remove them at the end of each year and this is the eigth year of using for ds1 and they're still fine - so year on year the cost is quite cheap

I agree, I bought the Cash's name tapes for all my kids (because that's what my mum used for me and my brother). I bought my eldest's 7 years ago and have never had to buy more, I still have loads unused. I also got their stick on labels for shoes and lunch boxes etc which have been excellent - they never come off and have a protective clear sticker to make them wipeable.

The link I provided earlier for ebay is 50 iron on labels and 50 sticky labels for £2.99.

I also use a fabric marker stamp with my kids names on. It takes no time atall to stamp everything, (including bags, pencil cases etc) and the ink usually lasts on the clothes for at least a year. I bought them 7 years ago, and they were around £10 each, but they've been a worthwhile investment. I've used less than 1/2 of one bottle of ink.
