Last year I got "taggits" they are ordinary labels that come with a plastic tool that tags it to the garment without having to sew. Fantastic!!!

Hiya chatta, i know my post about some parents cutting lables out may have seemed silly, but believe me on one occation my youngest son lost his jumper, which i had only his name wrote on the lable, my son told me a certain other child in class had it on next day, he knew it was his has he has a habbit of chewing his sleeves and had a small hole in the cuff which i hadnt got round to repairing.
I had a word with the class teacher who had a word with the childs parent ask if there had been a mix up during pe, and the parent just said no, i always cut out his lables as they rub him, The fact that this child had never had a school jumper with logo before this day just mad me mad.

This is why i now write on the clothes themself not lables.

    I get mine from ebay:

I have nothing to do with this Co - just a satisfied customer.

They stay on in the wash, are easy to apply and good value for money.

You can get iron on name tapes (you do write the name on in indelible pen but I would have thought that was acceptable).

BTW I once ordered one set of embroidered name tapes for my two and put one initial in front of the surname and the other after eg L Smith C, then when sewing them on folded under whichever initial wasn't wanted so one would read L Smith and the other Smith C.

I did the same thing both my children are J L so i ordered one set of labels with J L then our surname.

could you not get some scraps of fabric and cut on the childs initials and stick them on to a square peice of fabric with some of that wonderweb stuff and then stitch the square peice of fabric into the clothing somewhere?

Its that time again when I find myself with mountains of school uniform to name. I was wondering what the other parents do as this year the school has said writing names in pen won't be acceptable (what I normally do) so I've got to find another way. The kids came home with adverts for labels to buy but when I looked on the website it was going to be over £10 per kid! I just want a resonably quick and easy way of naming all the kids bits and considering that includes summer and winter uniforms, tights and socks, lunch boxes, juice + water bottles, shoes, pe kits + bags, reading folders, aprons, colouring kits etc etc and so on I'd rather not use anything that needs sewing lol!

    Any ideas please? :)

Did they say why it is unacceptable?

I have got one of thoe Dymo label makers that use paper to make stick on labels (not the old fashioned type where you turn the wheel)and i noticed the other day that they now do a cartridge with iron on name tape in it. I haven't tried this but if you have got one of these labelmakers it would be worth getting the iron on cartridge

and if you haven't got one, i really recommend them. It makes life so much easioer to be able to label just about anything really easily
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Yes, because of pen washing out and even though I've always used permanent ink I have to admit it does fade. It's just that they want everything labelled and I feel socks and the like are gonna be pretty itchy and uncomfortable with labels sewn/ironed in to them.

I bought a stamper with dd's names on when they first started school - you just add the ink onto the pad before you stamp. They are still going strong 6 yr's on with the original bottle of ink. I'm not sure of the make but I bought them from lakeland plastics (lakeland limited now). It is really only the same as using a labelling pen but they don't fade and you can use them on any fabric - even gym shoes.
I also had a disappearing school sweatshirt once - two days old and taken from the back of her chair in classroom during school concert. What parent wouldn't notice their child coming home with a brand new sweatshirt:confused:
