So you haven't worked since last July, and the HB office want your P45? Well, you can't provide what you don't have. Just make a statement to confirm that you haven't worked since July and that you don't have your P45, have tried to get it but have not been able to. They'll have to accept that. You'll probably need to provide more bank statements than normal to show what you were living off, and they may want you to confirm what you were living off in writing, but as long as you give them what you can they have to accept it. As long as they think you've given all the correct info they should be happy with that, especially if you're only claiming now.

One thing they might want to establish is why you've not worked or claimed benefits since July, and if you've therefore had capital. If you had a lot of capital, certainly over the £16k limit, you'll need to explain how it was spent and show that it was not disposed of for the purpose of later claiming benefit.

    Hope that helps.
