As Richie above recommended then I think I'll go with:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adjustable-Bracket-Plasma-LCD-Screens/dp/B000I2BVQW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1211407708&sr=1-2

Seeing as its tilting and will support the 40" TV and according to users above I'll still be able to fit cables in the back... That's what I need :)

Then £30 for the handyman.. I already have my own surround sound so bachelor pad here I come ;)

Thanks guys! Where would I be without you all :)

That's the bracket I use for my 37" LCD. Great bracket and very solid.
It's also quite useful being able to lift the TV off the wall rail for connecting cables if necessary.

Save yourself £30 for the handyman - if you can use a drill, you can mount it.
Decide on position and height - locate plate on the wall - mark first hole.
Drill hole (tip - tape an open envelope to the wall using masking tape - it'll collect almost all of the dust)
I then fixed the plate to the wall and using a spirit level got the plate level and marked hole no 2. Drill hole no 2.
Plate is then mounted on wall using 2 bolts. The rest of the bolts can then be easily drilled using the plate as a template.
Should take no more than 30mins to fix plate to wall - and you've saved £30!

  • Your TV will come with the correct bolts for the back of the TV
The wall mount comes with a selection of the correct bolts for to mount to the wall
The cable [ing ] your concerned about is usually explained in your ' TV destruction book '
The cable [ing ] ( distance from the wall for Scarts Etc ) is accounted for in the wall mount design
The space behind the TV - to - wall is essential to allow ' breathing ' for a hot TV
If your over concerned you can buy 90 degree scarts / HDMi / monitor plugs etc

N.B. The wall mount instructions do not discuss wall types, as in brick / breeze / plasterboard etc, each person has a different combination of wall product.

Hey Richie - I got the TV years ago so I don't have the bolts and stuff that came with it...

Also, I don't have a drill and have never used one ;) (This is only my 2nd ever place out of Uni!)

Will the handyman cover all of the above if I just give him the mount and everything that comes with it from amazon?

    - yeh no problem mate, the back of the TV bolts [ the ones your missing ] are usually M6 x 20mm
    - you might want to warn the fitter in advance to have 1/2 dozen bolts plus washers, or you will pay xtra ( time / fuel / labour ) when he has to go out half way through to Screwfix to buy some for you

N.B. the washers are to ' adjust ' the depth of the screw if they are to looooong ! Best of luck with you new pad

Ok perfect I'll let the handyman know before he comes....

Just got to move in and check the wall now. Currently holds a small wall mount so hoping it is a proper hard depth wall...

    Thanks as always :)

Even if it is a stud wall, so long as your handyman gets the bracket fixings in the actual studwork you won't have to worry about anything.
