Helloooo!
I bought 3 of the B&M grow bags for my tomatoes and scared to use them! As a moneysaver too i think i may have just become a money waster . Has anybody used these are they worth using. I grew my tomatoes from seeds and really dont want to lose them because i wanted to save a pound.
If they are rubbish, is there anyway i can add to them to make them usable - some sort of feed?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you!

I am not really sure but untill someone who knows properly here is my input. I grew my toms from seed and i added to the compost Fish Blood & Bone to it and i now believe it was to strong and killed them maybe its best for you to plant and keep an eye on them, your only supposed to feed toms when they flower with a little tomato feed I also mix some organic chicken manure tablets in a bucket of water and when they dissolve you have a liquid feed. Hope this Helps you just a little. :cool:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

My neighbour used cheap grow bags he feeds plants with chicken manure mixed in with the peat in grow bag. He told me he also waters then with diluted chicken manure0

Tomatoes need plenty of feeding anyway even in a decent grow bag.
Feed with a normal type of fertiliser until they start setting flowers and fruit and then switch to a tomato one.
Last year I ran out of growbags and ended up using compost and mixing in chicken manure pellets. Tomatoes did well!0 -
I grow my tomatoes in the soil, and my peppers, chillis and aubergines in large pots with the compost I've transferred out of grow bags. I always mix in a handful of chicken manure pellets in with the soil or compost and find that this keeps my plants well fed throughout the whole growing season. I don't think any grow bag, even the superior ones, really contain sufficient nutrients to feed growing plants throughout the summer, especially when they start bearing fruit. Adopting this method always gives me good results.0

Thank you for all your imput. I think i am just going to try a few different ways. I planted 3 of my tomato plants into a grow bag and will get some chicken pellets and then i may keep a couple in pots, maybe a couple in the ground. Just as an experiment.
At the moment they are in newspaper pots and the pots are growing mouldy so i would think they need to be moved. They are around 15cm so still quite small.
Trial and error right?
Thanks again!0 -
