dyson being temperamental

I have a purple dyson. It's a few years old and all of a sudden only the hand held thingy sucks and the normal bottom bit doesn't. Any ideas on how I can fix it?
Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

the tube on ours used to block regular. a clean out with a bent wire coat hanger was the answer.Get some gorm.0

:oTurns out there was nothing wrong with it... the nice lady at the Dyson helpline explained (very patiently) that I had turned off the sucking mechanism!!!:o :doh:Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry.
