Strawberry runners

I read somewhere about strawberry runners but it talked about the autumn time my strawberry plant is shooting runners one i pushed down into a single small pot while still attached to the mmain plants.

Is that ok to do at this time of the year?
At what point would i cut it from the main plant? Thanks for reading :)

at this time of the year, I'd want the plant to be putting all it's energy into producing fruit so I cut off all the runners and they will produce some again later in the year.

After it's finished fruiting (depending on whether it's early, mid or late), you can start pegging the runners into small pots of compost. You can remove it when it's established. Gently tug on the plant and if it's stuck you can cut it off the mother plant.
  • ok thanks i`ll keep this first one as i think it`s rooted well and the 2 plants hav3 30 + strawberries on them so am very happy :)

Oh! I didn't know that - I've just created half a dozen little strawberry plants... oops. Ah well, I'll know next time!

if you peg runners now you won't get as much fruit and they won't be that big.

Honestly, don't worry about cutting them off. You can multiply strawberry plants really easily. Last year, I only pegged 1 runner per plant to get a stronger plant but they kept sending them out that I was bored of chopping them off by the end of the autumn. :)
  • :) Wow thanks everyone ,very helpful of you all,the one runner that i did take root what will it do this year , will it fruit ?

I used a strawberry plant to create ground cover and it's spread a lot so is effective. The downside is - no strawberries because i don't cut the runners off.
