Dont think so. I ordered Monday night. The money was earmarked on Tuesday and Saturday morning it had gone back in my account.

As Mikeyorks suggests, Amazon debit your card on dispatch (link).

We will not debit money from your credit/debit card until just before your item/items are dispatched.

Unless there has been some error on the payment processing of your particular order.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Despite earlier posts - that is not the case. The authorisation lapses as soon as the Bank software gives up waiting for the debit and moves the 'earmarked' money back into your available balance. If the debit comes in after that point your Bank use their normal rules to determine whether to honour the payment.

As far as I know, the authorisation is valid for six months.

That is the reason why many hotels (maybe most) with your reservation, will put through a card authorisation for one night's stay. If you don’t show up, they can put the charge through (up to the level of the authorisation. (If they only wanted to check if a card is valid, they could just have a single quid authorised.)

So they actually appeared on your statement, or just as earmarked money in your account?

I don't know what the difference is. On the weekend three transactions showed on my online account (and the balance was calculated as though the transactions had been deducted). On Tuesday the transactions were missing from the account and the balance was higher to the value of those transactions. On Thursday the transactions showed again and the balance was back down also.

The authorisation is tied in to the reserving of funds - once the funds are returned to your use the authorisation has lapsed.

There's no real read across to hotels? They either process the card immediately (if you've opted for a non-refundable deal) or they store the card data unprocessed. Then ask for the card on arrival and do a 'pre-authorisation'. In the event of a 'no show' they will simply process the stored card data as a 'cardholder not present' transaction.

Ive stayed in hotels where they have earmarked £100 from my account, then after a week it falls off. Assume thats for any damage etc that you may incure, and then they can simply take the money
