£5 Income Disregard - HOW OLD?

I'm writing concerning the income disregard - the amount you can legally earn before it effects your benefits. Currently if you are single the amount is £5, and as far as I'm aware it's been five pounds since the 1980s. Question: does anyone know exactly how long it's been five pounds? Thing is, if you take into account the rate of inflation, today that £5 of old (say 1980) is worth around £20.

surely, if you earn over the modest ammount of a fiver on a regular basis then you are employed.
do you want to work and be unemployed at the same time?0
