Any of the electric boards should be able to tell you.

  • Phone your current electricity company and they will give you a number where you can find out the properties current / previous supplier. It's called a Regional Board or something similar- can't quite remember.

Regarding water it will be the standard regional supplier I would think- is the house in the same district as yours? Again I'd give your current supplier a call, they should be able to help you. Do you know the meter number or where the meter is? As you'll probably have to physically turn the water on on arrival and often the external stopcock is with the meter (if there is one).

    Good Luck!

I am now losing the will to live... i've tried everyone, the company who did supply it say they have no record of it. i've asked the estate agent to sort to find out a serial number on the electric meter numerous times but nothing. I've still yet to exchange even though i've signed so tomorrow morning if the EA hasn't got it for me by 12pm tomorrow i shall be telling them i'll be pulling out. Hpefully this will actually get them to do something for me to earn their commision

Sorry to butt in here, but isn't this something that your solicitor should find out for you?

I know when I bought my property, albeit not a repo and 3 years ago, I know they got all the details for me.

Sorry I can't help but what has your solicitor said? Anything they can do or advise? I'm guessing not, as they would have already said I'm sure.

He is unable to find out anything. My gripe is having asked the estate agent to call the janitor or maintenance guy from the apartment block i'm moving to or even get me his number so i can look at the meter and get the serial number which is all i need to locate the supplier and get it reconected they have failed to do so

Poor you. I should buy a gas ring and camping lantern + have a look at the meters yourself when you get there.

Although it's surprising your estate agent isn't more interested if you have threatened to pull out, since it's nearly the end of the month and he / she must be looking at their sales figures!

i had this with the repo flat i have just bought. had no idea who the gas, water or electric where with. its not the agent or the sols concern. however, when i got the keys, found all the bills, which had not been paid, on the door mat.
