Is eBay cheaper in the summer?

I ask because I get the distinct impression it is. Among the items I buy and sell are rare or out of production model kits, mainly Airfix but others as well now and then.

This is all about nostalgia for me - I buy them, paw them lovingly, remember I have no time to build them, and flog them on. Well, the duplicates, anyway...ya never know...

...so anyway, I have seen an Airfix kit that went for £37 in February go for £7 in August; I have seen model car kits at £17 going for £1.99 plus the postage.

Is it just me and the types of things I buy and sell, or what? Needless to say I am speculatively filling my boots a bit at the moment with stuff I am sure I will shift at a 100 or 200% markup in a few months' time.

I've noticed I get better deals in the summer, because of that I've started buying xmas presents and got some really good deals.
    Nice to save.

People have been on holiday, or at the beach, or in the sun.

It's not a great time of year to sell.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • It's a great time of year to buy things like sunglasses, swimwear and luggage, now that the holiday season is more or less over. It seems to be a bad time of year to sell... well, almost anything, really.
  • Looks that way to me too. Presumably yes, it is because people are away.

Will be interested to see when it picks up.

It could be never! eBay could be about to shut down!

    Nah, I doubt it.

I'm having a disastrous week, 75% of my stuff that finished yesterday had no bids where I would normally expect 80-90 % to be sold.

I was alright up to last weekend and now it's all gone pear shaped.

    Soo

It really annoys me when another seller buys your goods and then sells them on at a great profit. I suppose its my stupid fault for listing them this time of year and on a bid rather than a buy it now but even so...
    I'm obviously doing something wrong!!!
  • As a seller, stuff certaily doesn't go for much as an auction at this time of year - I just work with 'buy it now' over the Summer. At the moment I'm trying out the ebay shops which seems good for more unusual books as it gives more exposure time.

All is fair in love and war....I have bought a few things recently, no good to me but fully intend to sell on at profit.....sorry!
