This is another one I'd better prefix with Martin's kindly 'There is no such thing as a stupid question.'

When I've used pix for ebay, |'ve been able to lighten them, so i know it can be done.

This time, I want to print out a pic. taken in a dark bedroom. The gloomy image is in My Pictures. What next please?

I am bamboozled by techie names/terms, so please offer any help in dimbo mode.

Thankyou...if you can.

    Which version of windows?

For vista: click on the picture in question, at the top there should be a button to press with something along the lines of edit (sorry mine is in another language). Right hand side a bar appears and if you press contrast (circle with half black and half white), sliding things appear to change brightness and contrast for you to play with.

Thankyou Grandmaster - it's microsoft windows xp, home edition, version 2002, service pack 3.
I find the pic in My Pictures. Below is a line of symbols for various functions, but NOT, unfortunately, anything for brightness or contrast. there is an edit prog., but this controls colour, paint, shape, airbrushing etc and I wouldn't know how to do these anyway.

You could try Irfanview (freebie) - details and download here http://www.irfanview.com/

If you ensure JPG files are associated to the program (should be a screen of file extensions to associate during installation), should open when you double-click the picture, Then select Image/Enhance colors (sic) to change brightness, contrast and (if brave enough) RGB balance and Gamma correction.
