Cheque gone mising in post

I have sent a friend a cheque for £16. I posted it over a week ago and it has not arrived. Lloyds charge £10 to stop a cheque, so I figure I won't bother. If it was intercepted and changed to a larger figure, then succesfully cashed (fraudulently), am I right in thinking that I would not be liable? It is marked "Account Payee Only".

Tell them that the cheque is lost.

    1) It's the truth.
    2) They don't charge.

    £10
If you ask us to stop a cheque (unless the cheque was lost or stolen, when this would be free of charge).

Personally I wouldnt bother stopping a cheque for just £16.
Account payee means that it can only be paid into the account holder named. I would give it a few more days for it to arrive.

i really wouldnt worry about it.

Yesterday, at work we got an envelope which we had sent out with cheques in it marked 'Not at this Address' and we had actually sent these cheques out in October 2009:eek:
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
