Fraud on 2 credit cards in 1 month!

In July a fraud attempt was made on my Natwest Visa card - Natwest called me to check some transactions as they looked strange - they had a failed attempt to take money from AOL which was nothing to do with me. They cancelled my card and issued a new one.
In August a fraud attempt was on my Egg Mastercard. £400 was taken from a driving training company. I contacted the company and they confirmed that the person having the driving lessons had phone up saying there friend was willing to pay for the lessons and they then gave my card details (including CVS), name and address. I called Egg last week and the card was cancelled. I had a call from Egg today and someone has tried to take money on the card from Tmobile today.
The Egg Money Mastercard has only been used on the Internet and never in a shop or cash machine. I have only used known shops all with https connections.
The only connection I can think of between these 2 cards is that originally my Natwest Visa card was registered as my Paypal VISA card. When the Natwest card was cancelled in July I registered the Egg Mastercard with Paypal. Approx 2 weeks after this the Egg card was used for fraud. Could paypal really be the link?
I have requested credit reports from Experian today so hopefully they will turn up later this week so I can see if anything else has occured with my name.
To say the least I am very worried that this has happened to me twice in less than 1 month on 2 different cards!

Sorry to learn of you misfortune. I wonder if the driving training company can confirm if they checked the license of the person taking the lessons?0 -

The driving company spoke to the trainee and he has now paid on a different credit card - hopefully his own and not someone elses!
Due to the Data Protection act the driving company won't disclose the name and address of the person that tried to use my card.
Unfortunately the security team at Egg Money Mastercard seem very slow and even though I have called them twice and sent secure messages they haven't called me back yet to get the details and to investigate further.0 -
I'm sure the police could override this if they were told about it...Due to the Data Protection act the driving company won't disclose the name and address of the person that tried to use my card.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
I can't believe how bad Egg Money are.
I called them today to find out why the Fraud team hadn't contacted me yet and it appears that even though I rang them 7 days ago to inform them it was only passed to the fraud department yesterday!
The customer service agent I spoke to then had the cheek to try and sell me another egg product - I asked the operator if he really thought I would purchase from a company that has taken 7 days to pass a message internally regarding a serious fraud! Amazing!
I have also called the police now and they have logged the case and I am waiting for a call back to take the full details.0 -
Just found out that someone has now tryed to take out a Current Account (overdraft) using my name/address and claiming I have moved house!
Luckily the bank in question thought the application looked dodgy so rejected it and wrote to me to inform me. They have now registered me on CIFAS so hopefully that should stop anything happening to me!
I gave a statement to the Police last week, but they don't seem to be that interested at the moment..0 -
mbaily - CIFAS is a good idea but it is only applicable to CIFAS members, which is not all lenders.
Consider this as a cheaper more effective method:
Identity Theft - Self Help:
No need to worry about a crook trying to change you address.0 -

I am not sure how you can say cheaper as CIFAS is free if it is put on by a member (which it was in my case.)
Ok, point taken that it is not all lenders, but better than nothing.0
