Replacing an external door

I wish to replace an existing steel door and wooden frame with a UPVC door and frame, does anyone know if it is best to get a general builder to do it or should I go to a double glazing firm. I've already purchased the door and frame. Any advice would be a great help if you know of anyone in East Sussex who is cheap.

    its a handyman type job.

  • This is a job for a carpenter my friend, I should know because thats what I do.

I suggest you get 2 -3 quotes - it's probably half a days work but expect to pay for the whole day's labour.

Buying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run.

    Part of the Furniture
Below a certain percentage of area of glass of the door there is no need to notify..forget the number (50% maybe?) but i did look into it when considering DIYing our new front door.

Our replacement front door was fitted in a couple of hours (or less) by double glazing company...though it was supplied by them. It actually worked out cheaper than if i'd bought the door from say Wickes and DIYed it.

If you diy it then make sure you've got everything you need, start early on a day that DIY shops are open all day (just in case!).
