Internet problem...again!

Options
Gah, I'm being cursed by an internet issue.

To cut a long story short, have a desktop, a netbook, and as of an hour ago, a brand new laptop. Desktop has been dropping the internet randomly for 30-60 seconds for the last few weeks, with a 'Your connection has been reset' message. Combofix broke it, so I reformatted last night. Finished at 3am, so only tested the internet for 10 minutes or so. It seemed okay...slow, but I didn't notice a drop. It might of, though.

New laptop came an hour ago, it's started to drop the internet. It was fine for the initial half an hour...it's momentarily on here, but still very annoying.

My dad's computer works fine, its plugged directly into the router port. Problem happens on the desktop/laptop whether wireless or plugged in...it can't be malware, they are both clean reformats. Any other ideas?

Thank you!

Only thing I can think of testing is removing your dads connection to the router and plugging your machine into exactly the same port.

I'll check the adapter, I didn't think of that :)

The router I'm using is about 6 years old (Dad doesn't like changing it) and his computer is quite old too, and on XP. The desktop and this computer are much newer, and on Windows 7. Could there be some problem due to the age? I've been told networking standards could have changed and be causing this, but I'm not sure how true that is...

    Thank you both :)

  • I would say to check the adapter. I have the worst problems somedays with my laptop and/or desktop losing internet connection. It sure is a pain in the butt sometimes.
