New boiler?
We have had to turn off our boiler as it has been venting gas into the house....eeek! So no heating (not a problem right now) and no hot water - but can use the immersion heater for that.
So according to our gas bloke it needs replacing. here's the problem. We are not on benefits, earn (slightly) more than £16000 and are not entitled to any grants or anything. We simply cannot afford to buy a new boiler and doubt we will ever be able to....we can put up with this durint he summer but what do we do for the winter?
Are there schemes for people like us? the last thing we want is to put it on the credit card, but it looks like we might have to. it seems wrong to go into debt to ensure our family has heat.

Isn't there a boiler scrappage scheme? Will bring cost down, but maybe not to what you can afford
Could you get second opinion, maybe it is repairable but your gas bloke can't be @rsed?Gardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
The scrappage scheme ran out months ago unfortunately. Wish we had thought of it then as it would have improved the situation financially. The boiler is 25 years old, so I don't think simply repairing it is a good option. It is probabaly really inefficient anyway and would have needed replacing even if this problem hadn't occurred.0

Energy Saving Scotland can offer interest free loans in some circumstances for replacing old inefficient boilers. If you're not in Scotland your local council or energy advice centre may be able to point you towards any local schemes going.
Could you get a bank loan or borrow some extra on the mortgage - this might be cheaper than a credit card.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Cheaper in the short term but not the long term.
Still a number of firms (us included) offering finance and 400 quid off the standard list price.
